Building Homes, Building Trust: A Habitat for Humanity Partnership with FischerSIPS

Frank Nelson, EnergyStar award-winning builder, has spent 20 years building homes with Habitat for Humanity in Highlands County, Florida. For the past 10 years, he has served as a Construction Manager, overseeing every stage of the building process- from permitting and site preparation to coordinating subcontractors and working directly alongside volunteers. Through this work, he has also developed with partnership with FischerSIPS, a company he now relies on for SIP construction across his projects.

He was first introduced to FischerSIPS years ago but initially chose to work with suppliers closer to Florida due to concerns about distance and delivery timing. However, after working with five different SIP companies and dealing with repeated problems like missing panels, incorrect orders, and delays, he found that reliability mattered far more than location. Ultimately, he returned to FischerSIPS and has relied on them exclusively ever since, describing them as “hands down, the best company” he has worked with.

Frank currently leads development on a 24-acre Habitat community that will include 60 homes upon completion. To date, 35 homes have already been built, with the remaining homes planned over the coming years. As the development continues to grow, FischerSIPS will be used across future builds, supporting both current construction and long-term expansion. This year alone, his team is planning four new homes with FischerSIPS, with additional projects already in the works through secured funding.

Reliability has been the most important factor in that decision. In a volunteer-driven environment, even one missing panel can delay an entire build. According to Frank, FischerSIPS has consistently delivered complete and accurate materials on time, allowing projects to move forward without interruption. He emphasized that they “never miss deadlines” and consistently go “above and beyond” expectations, which has made a significant impact on overall efficiency and planning.

The panels themselves have also improved the construction process, particularly given Habitat’s volunteer base. Many of Frank’s volunteers are in their 60s and 70s, and the ease of handling and installing SIP panels has made the work more accessible and manageable. He noted that volunteers are able to use the panels “with ease,” which helps maintain both safety and productivity on site while keeping projects on schedule.

Durability is another key advantage. In a region frequently impacted by severe weather, including Hurricane Irma, SIP-built homes have demonstrated strong resistance to wind and storms. Frank observed that none of the SIP homes in his area sustained structural damage during the storm, reinforcing his confidence in the system for long-term resilience.

Beyond product performance, the working relationship has been a major differentiator. Frank works directly with Damian at FischerSIPS, ensuring clear communication and responsiveness at every stage of the project. He emphasized that Damian “never runs from calls” and is always available to address questions or provide support. That level of consistency and accountability has built a strong sense of trust, which Frank identified as one of the most important aspects of the partnership.

As development continues across the community, Frank remains committed to working with FischerSIPS for future projects. He stated that he would, even in his hometown. Based on his experience, he has expressed that he would confidently recommend them to others and continues to rely on them as a trusted partner in delivering high-quality, efficient, and durable homes.

“FischerSIPS is one of the most upstanding companies I have ever worked with. Damian is top-notch and is always there for me before any contracts are signed. I look forward to working together on future projects,” -Frank Nelson

Thank you, Frank, for sharing your story and for your continued trust and partnership. We appreciate the work you do every day to build quality homes and make a lasting impact in this community.
